DARFIELD TOURNAMENT
The girls had to
overcome their closest rivals to triumph in Darfield's
annual tournament. Dearne entered two teams to make it doubly difficult,
as well as a strong team from Scawthorpe.
Two wins against Dearne 'a' and 'b' and a 2-0 reverse against Scawthorpe
were good enough to take us into the final against Dearne 'a'. We came
out top in this encounter 1-0 thanks to a superb goal from Chloe Denton.
Other scorers on the day included, Sarah Brookes, Lucy Mills and Rachael
Henderson.
Kate Hardcastle in goal and a determined Becky Townsend at centre back
provided the platform for this triumph with tireles support from
mid-field by Mel Guy.
The girls next tournament will be at Newark on the 15th. of July. "COME
ON THE GIRLS" (In a Geordie accent). That was just for Rache.
Pontefract Ladies competed
in the prestigious North East International Football Tournament this year and
emerged from their group with a 100% win record which meant a Final against
Newcastle United played at Whitley Bay AFC.
Newcastle came out on top with a 3-2 victory but Pontefract were more than a
match for them and were unlucky on several occasions missing a number of gilt
edged chances.
